Man gets 3 Years for Boystown Stabbing (VIDEO)

Warning: Graphic Content. This video is of the actual stabbing on North Halsted. The 25-year-old man will now spend three years behind bars.

A 25-year-old Hammond man was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday after being convicted of stabbing another man during a 2011 brawl in Boystown, the Post-Tribune reports.

Darren Hayes was arrested days after a July 3, 2011, altercation on North Halsted Street near the corner of Aldine Avenue, the Windy City Times writes. He was convicted of aggravated battery on Nov. 19.

A video of the brawl and stabbing, recorded by a neighbor, was posted on YouTube and has more than 50,000 views.

Prosecutors say Hayes and a group of roughly 10 people were walking on the 3300 block of North Halsted when they passed the victim and said something to him, reported the Chicago Tribune in 2011. Hayes pushed the victim, who threw the first punch.

That’s when the all-out brawl ensued, as seen in the video.

At the end of the YouTube clip, the victim is seen holding a shirt over what are assumed to be the stab wounds on his torso. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment and was later released, the Sun-Times writes.

While Hayes’ address was listed as the 900 block of Kenwood Street in Hammond, the Tribune says a court-appointed attorney told prosecutors Hayes has lived in Chicago for more than six years. Two knives were recovered from his home after the crime.

Hayes was held without bail until his sentencing, meaning he may get credit for his time already served.

Didn't' that happen in 2011? You have two references to 2010 in this article. 2010 is when I noticed the bloodied people randomly running down Halsted St. and in 2011, when this happened, I pretty much stayed clear of the area entirely. Best of luck. Sincerely.

Good catch! And double points because the error was in the Post-Tribune story, too.

They're trying WAY too hard to convince us this bloodshed (yes) is just "recent" and under control although it's been going on for YEARS per Lakeview residents that have lived there longer than I have. Let the recent Kansas transplants be fooled. The bartenders brushing this off as "just transient youth" aren't fooling anyone either. I hope you girls can get it together out there but the recent shanking threat at one of the establishments that is a member of NHBA is kinda noteworthy as well.
