Chicago Man Makes Short Stop Before Entering I-55

Driver charged with aggravated DUI.

A Chicago man was charged with aggravated DUI after he stopped in the middle of the road before driving onto the Interstate 55 onramp, Darien police said.

Elias Gonzalez, 48, of the 5200 block of South Hyde Park Boulevard in Chicago, was neither at a stop sign nor an intersection when he stopped on Cass Avenue around 1:10 a.m., according to police.

After Gonzalez entered the highway, traveling south, officers saw him swerve within his lane and cross over onto the shoulder, according to the report.

Gonzalez admitted to drinking beer, and his Breathalyzer test registered nearly twice the legal limit, police said.

In addition to the DUI charge, Gonzalez was charged with improper lane usage and driving with a revoked license, police said.
