Court Watch: Mom Accused of Shooting Heroin Pleads Not Guilty

A weekly roundup of activity in the DuPage County Circuit Court.

:
The second half of a husband-wife duo has pleaded not guilty to charges of shooting heroin in a gas station bathroom on Christmas Eve while their children sat in a running vehicle. During a Feb. 6 hearing, Georgina Burr denied single counts of possession of a controlled substance and child endangerment. A grand jury recently indicted the couple on those charges, with Andrew Burr entering a not guilty plea in late January. Both are scheduled to return to court on Feb. 28.

Hinsdale
A former Clarendon Hills police officer accused of stealing guns from the department in 2007 appears headed for a possible plea agreement with prosecutors. Court records show Daniel Ryan is scheduled for a plea and sentencing during March 2 hearing. Ryan was indicted last year on aggravated possession of stolen firearms, theft and official misconduct charges. Ryan, 49, of Westmont, previously denied the charges after surrendering to authorities. Records do not indicate any terms of a possible agreement.

Naperville:
The judge overseeing John Carbonaro's sex abuse case is looking over school district records to determine whether the documents are relevant to the case, as Carbonaro's defense has suggested. Carbonaro's attorney subpoenaed records for two District 203 students, one of whom is said by prosecutors to have been sexually abused by the former Naperville North High School counselor. Prosecutors previously objected to the records being released on privacy grounds. The case returns to court on March 9, by which time Judge Blanche Fawell has said attorneys on both sides should file any pretrial motions.
