Darien Anonymous Tip Line Working; One Tip Led to Arrest

The system, like the Darien online crime map through RAIDS Online, is an implementation of two-year Darien police chief Ernest Brown.

The Darien Police Department's anonymous tip line (630-353-8150) has gathered over a dozen tips since being launched last fall, including one that led to an arrest, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"It's just another tool that allows us to open the line of communication with the public," Darien Police Chief Ernest Brown told the paper; he could not talk about the arrest because the incident is under investigation.

"We recognize that there are certain folks that use the tip line that might not want to be identified, but still want the police to know about a particular incident."

According to the paper, the tip line is one of several new programs that Brown has instituted in his two years as Darien chief, another notable one being the RAIDS Online crime map launched in March that provides residents with maps of Darien crime updated every eight hours.
