Ali Akel, 35, pleaded guilty to a felony hate crime charge in December 2012, stemming from an incident at a Woodridge gas station in June 2011. He was sentenced to two years of probation and 364 days of work release from DuPage County Jail, according to court records.
According to The Daily Herald article, Akel failed to report to a probation officer for two months and also went to Wisconsin without permission to leave the state. He was re-sentenced to two years in prison. using a racial slur and attacking two black men at the Mobil gas station at 1940 75th St. in Woodridge. During the court process, Akel failed to appear to multiple hearings.
