Darien Police Tout Tobacco Enforcement Grant

The following is a press release from the City of Darien:

The Darien Police are pleased to announce they are one of the 2014 Tobacco Enforcement Program grant recipients through the Illinois Liquor Control Commission. The $2,420 grant is part of the State's appropriation from the Tobacco Settlement Fund, as such, no taxpayer funds are used. In cooperation with State agencies, the Tobacco Enforcement Program supports community-based efforts to educate retailers on the state and local tobacco laws as well as to encourage voluntary compliance from the retailers and public on the minimum age tobacco laws. The program will include verification of required signage as well as three rounds of compliance checks. Compliance checks will begin October 2013 and continue through May 2014. There are currently twenty-one tobacco retailers and one tobacco vending machine in Darien.
