Lighting Strikes, Chars Darien Home on Thursday Morning

The strike caused $25,000 of “heavy damage” to a home on the 1600 block of Fox Hill Place.

A lightning bolt unleashed in Thursday morning’s storm struck a Darien home shortly before 2:50 a.m., causing “heavy damage” to the roof and chimney and charring several walls, according to a Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District press release.

The strike also tripped circuit breakers and caused a gas leak in the front yard of the house on the 1600 block of Fox Hill Place in Darien. Though smoke was reported, thermal imaging found no fire in the walls.

No one was injured in the strike, or during any other Darien-Woodridge storm-related incidents on Thursday morning. (The Department responded to over a dozen storm-related incidents by mid-morning.)

The initial damage estimates are $25,000 for the lightning strike.

The Westmont, Tri-State, and Pleasantview Fire Departments assisted at the scene of the lightning strike.

Wait, is this the same house fire that happen in Westmont? Because mom just told me that one of the houses on, i believe, Blackhawk dr was struck by lightning and caught fire.. My mom used to live over there and she was told one of the houses was struck. I just don't know if anyone was hurt. We were given little information.

This is the first we've heard of it. I'll reach out to the Westmont Fire Department and see what they can tell me. Thanks!!

You are welcome :) Yeah, that would be great if you could!! One of the houses over there is vacant, but there are two other possible houses that could have been hit.

A friend of mine lives by the house that was on fire or struck by lightning. It is off of Carriage Greens by the golf course in Darien. As far as I know nobody was hurt but there was an issue with the gas line in the front of the house. Hope this helps. On a side note I bet those police and firemen were busy during the storm, I've never seen anything like this before.
