Man Charged in Robbery is Former DGS Basketball Star, Seton Hall Recruit

Jerrot Wilbut is a former candidate for Mr. Basketball Illinois; he and two others are charged with robbing a juvenile near Clarendon Hills.

One of the three men arrested and charged with robbing a juvenile near Clarendon Hills late Thursday afternoon—a group that also incuded a Darien man—is a former Downers Grove South basketball star and a 2013 recruit for the Seton Hall University Pirates.

Jerron Wilbut, 19, of Willowbrook, is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail following their arrests Thursday, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Before graduating from Downers Grove South in 2012, Wilbut was a standout shooting guard for the school's basketball team and was a candidate for Mr. Basketball Illinois.

Wilbut spent his postgraduate year playing for St. John's Northwest Military Academy in Wisconsin, and was reportedly recruited by Seton Hall University in January, according to several college recruiting websites.

The other two men arrested in the crime are Kelechukwu Akuba, 20, of Romeoville, and Leverenzel Booth, 18, of Darien.

According to the Seaton Hall athletics blog South Orange Juice, Booth "appears to be pictured in one of Jerron Wilbut's pictures on his Twitter account." (Also, Seaton Hall's other 2013 committ, Aquille Carr, is facing domestic assault charges.)

Additionally, Akuba was charged with several felony aggravated battery of a police officer, resisting arrest and retail theft after an incident after he allegedly stole a bottle of liquor from Jewel.

Hi lpwagener, as you can see, we've been undergoing a few changes here this week and we're reallyRead More hoping residents will make use of our new Boards--like these--to help make sure anything we miss makes it to the site. Thanks for contributing; we'd love to hear if you have a story from the storm, or even if you just want to vent about nine-hour power outages (which sound terrible; I'm quite sorry.) Thanks!!
