Man Charged With Armed Robbery of Shell Station

An update on court cases making headlines in DuPage County in this week's Court Watch.

Downers Grove

A 51-year-old man, who last lived in Downers Grove, recently pleaded guilty to swindling money from an elderly resident. Metlow Miller admitted to one count of aggravated home repair fraud in connection to an April encounter with an 83-year-old man. Miller told the man he would fix cracks in his driveway and sidewalk for $32, but then told the man it would case nearly $1,300. The man paid Miller $950, although no work was performed. Miller received 180 days in DuPage County Jail, 24 months of probation and was ordered to pay restitution, as well as $650 in court costs.

Elmhurst

A DuPage County grand jury has indicted a 24-year-old Chicago man on charges he held up a gas station on Sept. 13. Mario Williams remains in DuPage County Jail on $300,000 bail charged with armed robbery and aggravated robbery. Police previously said Williams used a semi-automatic handgun while demanding cash from an employee of the Shell Station in the 900 block of North York Road. Williams was captured after he tried to flee by taking a taxi out of the area. Williams returns to court Oct. 25 when he could be arraigned on the charges.
