We run the police blotter every week in Darien, but some items are so outrageous that they deserve extra attention. Here are some of the wildest crimes that occurred in Darien during 2012.

Police: Darien Man Stabs Mother in Face and Neck with Carving Fork

Marcos B. Osoteo, 52, was arguing with his 81-year-old mother when police said he began punching her and stabbing her with the fork, causing multiple injuries.

Charges Filed in Palos-Area Crash That Left Darien Man Dead

Sam Cafi, 28, of the 8300 block of South 79th Street in Justice, was charged with eight counts of felony driving under the influence, including DUI resulting in a death, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Ryan Osowski, 28, of the 7500 block of Farmingdale Drive in Darien, was killed in the crash, according to reports.

John C. Kavan, who was facing up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty earlier this monthto a felony gun charge for shooting a Darien motorist, took his own life in June at his ex-wife’s Darien home.

Darien Woman Indicted in $16.2M Mortgage Fraud Scheme

A Darien woman was indicted in June for her alleged role in a scheme to illegally obtain at least 35 mortgages, resulting in $16.2 million in fraudulent loans for the purchase of property in Chicago and Country Club Hills, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald announced.

Darien Man Indicted by Federal Grand Jury in Cook County Bribery Scheme

A Darien man was indicted by a federal grand jury in June for allegedly participating in a corruption scheme to use bribery and kickbacks to sell bandages to public hospitals.

Gerald Lombardi (a.k.a. Jerry Lombardi Sr.), 59, of Darien, was indicted on two counts of wire fraud and one count each of bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery. His son, Jerry A. Lombardi, 33, of Downers Grove, was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

The Lombardis and Stanley Wozniak, 49, of Chicago, represented Chasing Lions, a veterans-owned business in Lisle. The U.S. Attorney’s office alleges the business was involved in the kickback scheme with former Cook County Commissioner Joseph Mario Moreno and former Chicago Alderman Ambrosio Medrano.
