'Happy Meal': Pot Brownie Found at McDonald's, Police Say

McDonald's is known for its Happy Meals, but one Darien resident is charged with taking that concept a bit too far.

Darien police said they were called to the McDonald's in the 800 block of Plainfield Road in reference to a drug deal inside the restaurant at 10:17 p.m. Jan. 24. 

Nicholas Colonna, 18, of the 7900 block of Glen Lane in Darien, was charged with possession of marijuana and delivery of marijuana. Police said they found marijuana in a small plastic bag on Colonna when he was sitting inside his car. 

Laura Zaliauskas, 33, of the 1500 block of Lakeview Drive in Darien, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug equipment. Zaliauskas, wearing a McDonald's sweatshirt, was in possession of a "cannabis brownie," police said. 

DOWNERS GROVE

Candy Bar in Gas Tank

Downers Grove police were called to the Career Education Corporation, 2655 Warrenville Road, around 9:50 on Jan. 22 for a report of criminal damage to a vehicle, according to reports.

The complainant said a candy bar was put in her gas tank sometime between 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 17 and 5 p.m. on Jan. 18, causing damage to the vehicle's fuel system, police said.

The woman said she noticed candy residue near the fuel filler when she went to put gas in the car. When she took the car to the dealership, she was told candy was found in the gas tank, and that repairs to the fuel system would cost about $550, police said.

The vehicle was parked in the parking lot of the Career Education Corporation when the incident occurred.

LA GRANGE

Landlord Tries to Snowplow Tenant?

A complainant from the 0-100 block of Kensington Avenue told police at 11:56 p.m. that his landlord had “tried to run him over” with a snowplow, saying he had been struck by the plowing SUV’s mirror. The incident was entered as a matter of record.

Skateboarder Pepper-Sprayed?

A 29-year-old La Grange man was reported at 9:20 a.m. to screaming in the La Grange downtown, saying that he’d been hit by pepper spray, and later left on a skateboard. The man was located 15 minutes later in front of the La Grange Theatre and transported to Adventist La Grange. Police could not confirm if the man had in fact been pepper-sprayed.

CLARENDON HILLS

Footprints in the Snow Lead Police Sergeant to Burglary Suspect

Savvy police work led to the arrest of a man Clarendon Hills police officials said they believe burglarized two vehicles early Monday morning.

Adam Rossal, 37, of the 10300 block of South Spaulding Avenue, Chicago, was charged with illegal trespass to railroad property, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia misdemeanors at 2:25 a.m. Monday after Sgt. Paul Dalen saw footprints in the snow around cars in the Blackhawk Heights neighborhood, observed Rossal near one of the cars, and, after Rossal fled, pursued and took him into custody in the 140 block of Ann Street.

Dalen caught up with Rossal, according to Detective Aaron Shirley, after the suspect broke his ankle coming down from the top of a garage he scaled during the chase near an apartment complex on Ann Street. He had parked his car near the complex.
