Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Car Backing Out of Driveway

Barbara Murdza, 87, was taking a morning walk when she was hit by a car backing out of a driveway on Roberts Road.

A Darien woman walking on Roberts Road died Wednesday morning after being struck by a car, Darien police said in a release Thursday.

Barbara Murdza, 87, of the 2200 block of Shannon Court, was walking on the street when a car backed out of a driveway and hit her around 9:44 a.m., police said. There were no sidewalks on either side of the street in the area where Murdza was walking, Deputy Chief John Cooper said.

Police officers and Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District paramedics treated Murdza at the scene before taking her to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. She died shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said.
