Darien police reports, May 6-14

Monday, May 14

DUI near Cass and 63rd Street

Steve E. Avalos, 27, of the 4000 block of Northwood Drive in Corpus Christi, TX, was arrested around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Cass Avenue and 63rd Street, said. Officers said Avalos was driving erratically while traveling northbound on Cass. He smelled strongly of alcohol and had red, glassy eyes, as well as droopy eyelids, police said. He told police he was drinking, but refused to take a chemical test, the report said. He was charged with DUI, improper turning, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage, and given a June 12 court date.

DUI on 75th Street

Gary L. Taylor, 28, of the 400 block of Kingston in Romeoville, was arrested around 3:40 a.m. on the 700 block of 75th Street, police said. Taylor was driving 84 mph in a 40-mph zone, police said. After officers pulled him over, Taylor and a female passenger both got out of the car’s passenger side door, the report said. Taylor spoke with slurred speech and smelled strongly of alcohol, police said. He told police he was drunk, the report said. His blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit, according to a Breathalyzer test. Taylor faces two felony DUI charges, along with charges for driving with a suspended or revoked license and speeding more than 40 mph over the posted limit. He was taken to DuPage County Jail where he remains on $5,000 bond.

DUI on Interstate 55

Ronnie McClinton, 31, of the 100 block of 46th Street in Bellwood, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. near Cass Avenue and Interstate 55, police said. McClinton was driving 90 mph in a 55-mph zone on I-55, police said. Officers said they saw him throw a cup out the window. McClinton told police he had been drinking in a bar in Bolingbrook before continuing to drink from the cup while he was driving, the report said. Two other plastic cups containing alcohol were visible inside the car, police said. McClinton’s blood alcohol levels were more than twice the legal limit, according to a Breathalyzer test. He was charged with two counts of DUI, illegal transportation of alcoholic liquor, driving without insurance and speeding, and given a June court date.
