Sunday, July 31

Goodbye, dolly

A red dolly was taken from a cargo area inside an unlocked rental truck parked on the 7400 block of Brookdale sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, police said. The dolly is valued at about $30.

Saturday, July 30

Curfew violations

Two Chicago teens driving without headlights were stopped on the 8200 block of Cass Avenue and cited for violating curfew around 4 a.m., police said. The 16-year-old driver was also cited for driving without headlights or a valid driver’s license, according to the report. The teens were picked up by relatives at the Darien Police Department.

Friday, July 29

Graffiti on signs, tree

Vandals spray-painted graffiti the letters A, T and S on: a tree; a street sign at the intersection of Stratford and Nantucket; a stop sign at the intersection of Nantucket and 79th; and a utility box on the 800 block of 79th Street, police said. The graffiti caused about $500 in damage.

Shoplifted video games

Two 12-year-old boys hid a bunch of video games on their bodies and left the 75thStreet Walmart around 8:20 p.m., police said. Store employees stopped the boys, who returned the games and were released to their parents, according to the report.

Scratched car

Vandals scratched the side of a car parked in the driveway of a house on the 7800 block of Darien Lake Drive around 6:05 p.m., police said. The perpetrators appear to have used a sharp metal object.

Thursday, July 28

Home burglary

A burglar forcefully entered a home on the 2300 block of Kerry Lane while two teenage residents were sleeping, police said. The burglar broke through a garage service door sometime between 8:40 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and took $48 from a purse, according to the report. Nobody was injured. Sunglasses stolen from shopping cart

A customer’s prescription sunglasses were taken from his cart while he was shopping at Walmart, police said. The glasses were worth about $170.

July 26

Attempted restaurant burglary

Burglars attempted to break in through the rear door of Thai O’Cha restaurant sometime between 9 p.m. July 25 and 12:30 p.m. July 26, police said. Pry marks were found on the door and the handle was missing, according to the report.

July 25

Truck lot troubles

A truck and trailer were stolen from the parking lot of Vision Trailer Leasing, 1035 S. Frontage Rd., sometime between July 22 and July 25, police said. Broken glass and tire tracks were visible in the parking space, according to the report. The truck was a red Volvo 660 with the words “Skyline Trucking” on the side, and the semi-trailer was white.

One day earlier police said a truck and trailer were reported missing from the next lot at 1033 South Frontage Road. Officers found both the truck and trailer at a different location in the same lot. The steering column had been peeked and the engine hot-wired, police said. A toolbox, tools, charging cords, coins and trailer cables were missing from the car.

Bike stolen from garage

A red and black 21-speed Schwinn mountain bike was taken from an open garage on the 3100 block of Brewer sometime between 9 p.m. July 24 and 1:50 p.m. July 25, police said. 

Truck vandalized

Vandals damaged the front passenger side tire and both headlights of a box truck parked in the driveway of a home on the 7200 block of Exner, police said. Eight stainless steel bolts were also taken from the rear of the truck. The damage, which happened between 2:30 p.m. July 24 and 9:17 p.m. July 25, will cost about $260 to repair.

July 24

Keyed car

Vandals keyed both the driver and passenger’s sides of a car parked in the lot in front of Chuck E. Cheese, police said. The incident happened sometime between 4 and 7 p.m., according to the report.
