Police Blotter: Ice Cream Meltdown; Three Car Burglaries; Stolen Property

Flying ice cream
Two to three teenage girls ordered an ice cream cone from the drive thru at McDonald’s on Plainfield Road, police said. They paid for it but then threw it back at the cashier, hitting him in the shoulder, according to the report. McDonald’s banned them from the restaurant. No charges were filed.
Friday, June 24Pickpocketing at Jewel
A woman’s wallet was stolen while she was shopping between 9 and 10 a.m. at the Cass Avenue Jewel, police said. The wallet was found in Bolingbrook, but credit cards and about $70 cash were missing from it, according to the report.

Stolen mailbox
A hand-painted mailbox was taken overnight from the front yard of a home on the 7900 block of Glen Lane, police said. The mailbox was worth about $50.
Thursday, June 23Unpaid cab fair
Eddie Rivera, 51, of the 2700 block of South Harvey Avenue in Berwyn, was arrested around 8 p.m. on the 7500 block of Country Lane, police said. Rivera took the cab to a home and told the driver he needed to get money from inside, police said. Rivera walked out the back of the home instead of returning to the cab, according to the report. Police apprehended him nearby and charged him with a local ordinance ticket for theft of labor or services.

Stolen bench
A metal bench was stolen sometime between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. from a patio in front of a home on the 3200 block of Beller, police said. The bench was worth about $60.
June 21Car burglaries
A GPS unit was taken from an unlocked car parked overnight on the 6900 block of Sierra Drive, police said. The unit was worth about $250.
Burglars smashed the back passenger window of a van parked near the corner of Sunrise and Elm sometime between 4:45 and 5:15 p.m., police said. The burglars took a purse that contained a wallet, sunglasses, keys, cash, gift cards and credit cards. The wallet was found in a yard in Markham, police said. The total loss is estimated to be $832.
June 20Car burglary
A GPS unit was taken sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. from a locked car parked on the 7500 block of Lemont Road, police said. It’s unknown how the burglar got into the car. The GPS was worth about $200.
