Police Blotter: Man Crashes into Light Pole, Fight at Carriage Greens

Sunday, Nov. 6

DUI, drug possession

Kevin M. McMahon, 36, of the 00W100 block of 91st Street in Willowbrook, was arrested around 2:05 a.m. near the intersection of South Frontage Road and White Deer, police said. Officers said they saw him driving east and swerving between lanes on South Frontage Road. His speed ranged from 40 to 68 mph in a 45-mph zone, police said. While searching McMahon, police found three baggies of marijuana in his pockets, as well as a marijuana pipe in his car’s armrest, according to the report. He also had a silver flask filled with alcohol, police said. McMahon declined to take a Breathalyzer test. He was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug equipment, driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol, speeding and improper lane usage, and released to his mother. He was given a Dec. 13 court date.

Marijuana possession

A 16-year-old girl from Downers Grove was arrested around 1:10 a.m. at the intersection of Drover and Burgess, police said. Officers said they saw a suspicious car parked at the dead end and smelled marijuana while questioning the people inside. The girl gave police a baggie of marijuana she had, according to the report. She was given an ordinance citation for possession of cannabis, with court dates pending.

Saturday, Nov. 5

Kid takes lighters

A juvenile from Westmont was arrested around 1 p.m. at the 75th Street Walmart, police said. He took three lighters, according to the report, and was released to his mother with an ordinance citation. 

Friday, Nov. 4

Stolen bikes

Two boys bicycles were taken from an open garage on the 7300 block of Seminole between 5:15 and 7:30 p.m., police said. The bikes were worth about $200.

Mailbox damaged

A mailbox was knocked off the post in front of a home on the 6700 block of Leonard between 1 and 10:30 p.m., police said. The incident caused about $20 in damage. 

Wednesday, Nov. 2

DUI near Cass and I-55

Abelardo Caridad, 33, of the 1700 block of Stanton Lane in Plainfield, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. near Lemont Road and Interstate 55, police said. Police found Caridad sleeping in his car and had to try and wake him several times before he came to and told officers he was in Berwyn, according to the report. He smelled strongly of alcohol and had red, glassy eyes, according to the report. His blood alcohol levels were more than twice the legal limit, according to Breathalyzer test results. He was charged with one count of driving under the influence – physical control and one count of driving under the influence – over .08, and given a Dec. 13 court date, police said.

Man crashes car into light pole

James J. Furlong, 64, of the 1100 block of Lacebark Court, was arrested around 2:05 p.m. at the corner of Tall Pines and Wintergreen, police said. Furlong crashed his car into a light post at the intersection, police said. He told police that he had drank between two and three glasses of wine before driving, according to the report. His blood alcohol level was less than twice the legal limit, according to a Breathalyzer test. He was charged with one count of driving under the influence – physical control, one count driving under the influence – over .08, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and damaging city property, police said. He was given a Dec. 13 court date.

Tuesday, Nov. 1

Retail theft

Alan Dumic, 38, of the 2500 block of West Foster Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at Walgreens, 8300 Lemont Road, around 5:30 p.m., police said. Walgreens employees told police he had previously attempted to steal things from the store, according to the report. Dumic admitted to police who waited for him outside the store that he hid three boxes of eye cream and planned on stealing them, according to the report. He then put the boxes on the sunglass display case. He was charged with retail theft and given a Dec. 13 court date.

Stolen mailbox

A black plastic mailbox was taken off its post overnight in front of a home on the 1700 block of 71st Street, police said. The mailbox was worth $400.

Monday, Oct. 31

Car burglary

A golf bag carrying a set of golf clubs, a pair of shoes and an iPad was taken overnight from a car parked on the 1000 block of Willow Lane, police said. The items were worth about $3,700.

Home burglary

A man found his apartment ransacked when he returned to it after trick-or-treating, police said. A black leather jacket, an Xbox 360, Xbox games and controllers, an autographed photo of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and an envelope filled with $2,500 cash were taken from the apartment on the 7500 block of Country Lane, police said. The items were worth about $3,540. There was no sign of forced entry, police said. 

Sunday, Oct. 30

Man gets in fight at Carriage Greens

Todd C. Maylath, 27, of the 6100 block of South Peck Avenue in La Grange, was arrested around 1:15 a.m. at Carriage Greens Country Club, police said. A verbal fight turned physical after Maylath punched another man in the face, according to the report. Maylath told police he was protecting his girlfriend, and he believed the man was about to hit her in the face. Maylath was charged with battery and released from the .

Couple charged after fighting in driveway

Melissa Smith, 24, of the 7300 block of Clarendon Hills Road in Darien, and Michael J. Cunningham, 30, of the 6300 block of Ingleside in Chicago, were arrested around 10 a.m. in the 7300 block of Clarendon Hills Road, police said. Smith and her boyfriend, Cunningham, got into a fight and started pulling each out each others’ hair while wrestling on the driveway, police said. Both people were charged with two counts of domestic battery and taken to the DuPage County Jail.
