Sunday, March 25

DUI near I-55 and Cass

Bernell Bennett, 64, of the 3700 block of West 84th Street in Chicago, was arrested around 3:10 a.m. near Interstate 55 and Cass Avenue,  said. Officers said Bennett was driving slowly and erratically. He had an open, nearly full cold bottle of Heineken in the front seat, police said. He smelled strongly of alcohol when he spoke, the report said. His blood alcohol levels were less than twice the legal limit, according to a Breathalyzer test. Bennett was charged with two counts of driving under the influence and illegal transportation of alcoholic liquor, and given a May 1 court date.

Possession of drug equipment

Fiton Mante, 19, of the 500 block of Buckingham Way in Bolingbrook, was arrested around 1:20 p.m. on the 7500 block of Lyman, police said. Officers said they pulled him over because his registration was expired and smelled marijuana coming from the car. When police searched the car, they said they found a glass pipe, which Mante said was his. He was charged with possession of drug equipment and given a March 29 court date.

Passenger throws marijuana out window during traffic stop

A Chicago woman was charged with cannabis possession when the driver of the car she was riding in was pulled over in connection with speeding around 12:10 a.m., police said.

Jason D. Ackerman, 34, of the 00S100 block of Lakeview Drive in Warrenville, was driving 63 mph in a 55-mph zone near Interstate 55 and Cass Avenue when officers stopped him, according to the report. Officers said they saw his passenger, Natasha Marshall, 32, of the 1300 block of Wilson Avenue in Chicago, threw a plastic bag filled with marijuana out the window. When questioned, she admitted the bag had marijuana in it, police said. Marshall was charged with possession of cannabis. Ackerman was charged with operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license and speeding.

Tuesday, March 13

Bikini theft

Alexandria N. Brancato, 18, of the 7000 block of Exner in Darien, and Meggie J. Wood, 18, of the 5300 block of Carpenter Street in Downers Grove, were arrested at the 75th Street Walmart around 12:05 p.m., police said. Officers said the teens took three bikinis and 11 assorted cosmetics, collectively worth about $110. Each girl was charged with retail theft and released.

DUI near Plainfield and Manning

Amanda R. Miller, 21, of the 7700 block of Surrey Drive in Darien, was arrested around 12:15 a.m. near the intersection of Plainfield and Manning, police said. Officers said they saw Miller driving erratically and turning inappropriately. She told police she had been drinking wine, according to the report. Miller had red, glassy eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol police said. Her blood alcohol levels were more than 0.08, according to a Breathalyzer test. She was charged with two counts of DUI, as well as with making an improper turn, and given an April 10 court date.
