Police Blotter: Possible Firework Damage at Darien Community Park; Ketchup Vandalism

Tuesday, July 5

Damage to park equipment

The wooden pavilion and 10 garbage cans were damaged in Darien Community Park sometime between Friday afternoon and Tuesday morning, police said. Although the exact cause of the damage is not known, police said it appears to be a result of fireworks that were lit in the garbage cans. The incident caused about $500 worth of damage.

Monday, July 4

Mailbox, car mirror vandalized

Vandals damaged a mailbox overnight on the 7100 block of Walden Lane, police said. The mailbox was worth about $125.

Vandals also damaged the driver’s side mirror of a car parked overnight in the driveway of a house on the 900 block of 71st Street, police said. The mirror was worth about $300.

Sunday, July 3

DUI near Cass and I-55

Jefferson Ansah, 46, of the 00 block of Fernwood Drive in Bolingbrook, was arrested around 3:45 a.m. near Cass Avenue and Interstate 55, police said. Police recorded Ansah speeding 75 mph in a 55 mph zone and saw him swerving between lanes, according to the report. He smelled strongly of alcohol and had red, glassy eyes, according to the report. A Breathalyzer test recorded his blood alcohol levels at more than .08, police said. Police charged Ansah with two counts of DUI, speeding and improper lane usage. Ansah was given an Aug. 16 court date.

Saturday, July 2

Possession of drug equipment

Eric A. Martinez, 18, of the 600 block of The Lane in Hinsdale, was arrested around 4:20 a.m. in the Cass Avenue Jewel parking lot, police said. Martinez and his car reportedly matched the description of a suspect in a truck burglary that took place earlier that morning on the 7600 block of Brookhaven, police said. The suspect in that burglary, dressed in all black, was seen rifling through the back of an unlocked truck, police said. He ran away when a neighbor yelled at him, according to the report, but a camera and spare change worth about $202 were taken from the truck.

Police didn’t find any items reported missing in the burglary in Martinez’s car, according to the report. The police canine searched Martinez’s car and found a marijuana pipe, according to the report. Martinez was charged with possession of drug equipment, police said. He was given an Aug. 2 court date.

Paint splashed on balcony

White paint was splashed onto the balcony of an apartment on the 700 block of Anderman overnight, police said. The paint caused about $200 in damage.

Friday, July 1

Drug DUI

Maksimilian Dobroserdcev, 18, of the 7700 block of Green Valley Court in Darien, was arrested around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Cass Avenue and 79th Street, police said. Police reportedly pulled him over for swerving and driving with a cracked tail light. Dobroserdcev and his car smelled like marijuana, and he had red, glassy eyes, police said. He told police he had smoked pot one or two hours earlier, according to the report. Dobroserdcev gave police a cigarette box that contained a small amount of marijuana as well as a joint, according to the report. Police charged him with DUI and possession of cannabis, and gave him an Aug. 8 court date.

Car egged

Eggs thrown at a car parked overnight on the 1200 block of Chapman caused about $250 worth of damage to the car’s paint, police said.

Tuesday, June 28

Car burglary

The rear passenger door window was smashed on a car parked in the Eisenhower Junior High parking lot between 5:45 p.m. and 8:17 p.m., police said. A purse containing credit cards, cash and glasses were taken from the car, according to the report. The total loss was about $432.15.

Porch covered in ketchup

Two teens poured ketchup on the front door and porch of a home on the 1500 block of Stewart, police said. The unidentified boy and girl damaged the door and porch with the ketchup but the value of the damage is not known.

June 26

Car burglary

The front license plate, cologne, vehicle registration and insurance card were taken from an unlocked car parked overnight in the Buona Beef parking lot, police said. The driver’s side window was also partially open. The cologne was worth about $80.
