Police Blotter: Purse Filled with More Than $1,000 Stolen; Shoplifted Game Controls

Curfew violation
Two 15-year-olds—a boy from Darien and a girl from Downers Grove—were cited for curfew violations near Green Valley and Wakefield around 1:50 a.m., police said. The teens were picked up by their parents.
Saturday, July 23Grill, umbrella taken
A Weber grill and patio umbrella were taken overnight from a house on the 2900 block of Spring Green, police said. The items were worth about $200.

Stolen shingles, garden tools
A resident returned home to the 1600 block of Clemens around 1:05 a.m. and found his front and garage doors open, as well as a window smashed on a backyard shed, police said. Nothing was missing from the home, but garden tools and several shingles had been taken from the shed, according to the report.
Purse with lots of cash stolen
A brown Vera Bradley purse was taken between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. from an unlocked locker at XSport Fitness on Lemont Road, police said. The purse had $1,080 cash, credit and debit cards and a state ID card inside, according to the report.

Hose theft
A Suncast automatic hose reel, along with a nozzle and 125-foot garden hose, were taken from the driveway of a house on the 8000 block of Capra Trail sometime between 10 p.m. July 18 and 8 a.m. July 19, police said. The items were worth about $160.
July 18Game accessories theft
James V. Hoffman, 44, of the 600 block of 1stStreet in Lemont, was arrested around 3:50 p.m. at the 75thStreet Walmart, police said. Walmart security tried to stop Hoffman after he took two Wii remote controls and an Xbox accessory kit from the store, according to the report. Hoffman ran through the parking lot, and Darien police caught him with the items by the Home Depot, the report said. Hoffman was charged with retail theft and given an Aug. 30 court date.
