Police: DUI Suspect's Blood Alcohol 5 Times Legal Limit

Police say they took him to the hospital after he said he felt ill.

A Joliet man was charged with two counts of driving under the influence around 5:45 p.m. Aug. 21 after a Breathalyzer test showed his blood-alcohol content was five times the legal limit, said.

Officers said they saw Francis J. Grant, 46, of the 400 block of Western Avenue, driving 15 miles under the speed limit and drifting between lanes on Interstate 55 near Cass Avenue.

When police pulled him over, he smelled strongly of alcohol and spoke slowly and deliberately, according to the report.

He had trouble grabbing his driver’s license and gave his insurance card to police twice, police said.

Grant had difficulty standing when he got out of the car and balanced himself against the car, police said.

He told police that he had taken prescription drugs while drinking alcohol, according to the report. Police said they found a half-empty bottle of vodka on the car’s passenger-side floor.

Grant also was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol and given a Sept. 27 court date.

After he told officers he felt sick, they said they took him to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
