Police: Woman Says Car Stolen After Neighbor Crashes Borrowed Car

The man fled the scene of the accident and told the woman to report the car stolen, police said.

After a neighbor crashed a Darien woman’s car on Interstate 55 near County Line Road, the woman falsely reported the car stolen, said.

The man borrowed a Ford Windstar van from Cheryl A. Knor-Sader, 44, of the 1100 block of Plainfield Road, police said. While driving the van, he struck a Ford pickup truck on I-55, causing it to spin out, Illinois State Police Trooper Clare Pfotenhauer said.

The man initially said he would stop but instead fled the scene, Pfotenhauer said.
