Report: Burr Ridge Auction House Accused of Fraud

The head of a major U.S. sports memorabilia company that was located in has been accused of tricking customers into paying high prices for fake items or items that were less valuable than the customers believed, the Huffington Post reports.

According to the report, in one case, Mastro Auctions failed to let potential buyers know in advance that a century-old Honus Wagner T-206 baseball card had been altered – information that would have reduced the rare card's auction price, according to the 33-page indictment released by the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago.

The head of Mastro auctions, William Mastro, along with two other executives were indicted Wednesday.

Mastro, 59, of Palos Park, faces one count of mail fraud, and former executives Doug Allen, 49, of Crete, and Mark Theotikos, 51, of Addison, face multiple counts. Just one count of mail fraud carries a maximum prison term of 20 years.
