Report: Seneca HS Football Coach Charged with DUI in Darien

A Morris man charged with driving under the influence in Darien teaches gym and serves as the head football coach at Seneca High School, according to a report in the Morris Daily Herald.

Darien Patch first reported on Jan. 16.

School Superintendent Mark Thurwanger said the school has not yet taken any punitive action against Reade, according to the report.

Reade told the Morris Daily Herald any disciplinary action is in its "early stages."

“You teach kids when they mess up on the football field or in the classroom, there's always consequences that are going to take place," Reade said, acccording to the Morris Daily Herald. "It comes back to, Seneca High School's a lot bigger than Ryan Reade. The best decision for our great school will be made."

said Reade 34, of the 900 block of Partridge Lane in Morris, was traveling only 40 mph on Interstate 55 and swerving between lanes. There was an open bottle of Bud Light in the car, police said.

Reade told police he drank two beers while at a Bulls game, but he refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

Police charged Reade with DUI – physical control and improper lane use, and gave him a Jan. 31 court date.
