Texting Teen Drives Car Onto Lawn

Willowbrook youth admits drinking before driving, police say

A Willowbrook teenager who was texting behind the wheel plowed into the front yard of a home on the 7600 block of Warwick around 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Darien Police said.

When police arrived, the 17-year-old told the officers he had been drinking, the report said. He also admitted to writing text messages on his cell phone while he was driving, police said.

Police arrested the teen and charged him with underage consumption, damage to city property, improper lane usage, failure to give information after striking property and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Although the nature of the “city property” was not listed in the report, police spokesman Nick Skweres said that charge probably referred to damage to the parkway between the sidewalk and the street.

The teen was processed and released to his father, the report said.
