Train Hits Car After Teen Driver Mistakes Tracks for Road

No one was hurt in the July 12 accident, and the driver was charged with trespassing on railroad property, according to police reports.

No one was injured after a train struck a car stranded on the tracks, according to a Hinsdale police report.

A 17-year-old Schaumburg girl was driving her 2006 Nissan Altima southbound on Garfield Street at 9:17 p.m. Saturday, July 12, when she mistakenly turned onto the train tracks, thinking they were a road, the report stated.

The car then became stuck on the tracks, and the driver and two passengers fled the vehicle before an inbound freight train hit it.

Police charged the driver with trespassing on railroad property in the accident, the report stated.
