Tri-State Fire District will Serve Willow Springs

Station 4 personnel and apparatus will be moved to Willow Springs, while the north side of the district will be served by Station 2. The fire chief says it will have "no adverse impact" on response times.

The Darien-based Tri-State Fire Protection District recently began serving the Village of Willow Springs, according to a district news release.

Effective Oct. 1, the fire district began providing fire and emergency services to Willow Springs' single fire station, per an intergovernmental agreement.

Besides Darien, the Tri-State Fire District also serves Willowbrook, Burr Ridge and some parts of unincorporated DuPage County.

The agreement with Willow Springs is three years, and Fire Chief Michelle Gibson said in the release that it will provide new revenue to help the district offset the costs of services, personnel and equipment.

Station 4, located at Western and 63rd in Darien, will be used for administrative purposes, but the apparatus and personnel will be moved to the Willow Springs fire house at 8259 Willow Springs Rd. Instead, calls from the north side of the district will be serviced by Station 2, located at 419 Plainfield Rd. That decision was based on a review of call volumes, coverage and response areas, according to the release.

"Tri-State will continue to evaluate how to better serve the taxpayers under the current financial constraints and continued loss of annexed properties to neighboring villages that Tri-State previously serviced," Gibson said in the release. "The addition of services to the Village of Willow Springs will have no adverse impact on Tri-State’s long standing response time goals."
