Two men tried to lure a 10-year-old boy into their car Friday in the Farmingdale South subdivision in unincorporated DuPage County, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office said in a release Wednesday. The neighborhood is in an area south of 87th Street and west of Lemont Road.

The men approached the boy around 5 p.m. Friday while he was riding his bicycle and offered him candy, as well as a ride, the release said. The Sheriff's Office is not releasing the exact location of the incident.

Instead of getting in the car, the boy rode his bicycle home, the release said.

He described the car as old, with four doors and lots of rust on the back, the release said. The boy told police that both the men were black and looked like they were in their 30s. The car's driver wore a baseball cap and a grey sweatshirt, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dawn Domrose said. The passenger work a dark sweatshirt and had dreadlocks, she said.

The incident is still under investigation, Domrose said.

Parents should remind their kids to be wary of strangers and teach them what to do if someone they don’t know approaches them, the Sheriff’s Office said.
