Vandals Go on Smashing Spree Between Friday and Saturday

Vandals damaged mailboxes and shattered coach lights and car windows in 10 incidents over the course of two days, police said.

A wave of vandalism hit homes in Darien between Friday and Saturday, according to reports.

Car windows, coach lights and mailboxes were targeted in 10 separate incidents over two days. Deputy Chief David Skala said during Monday's city council meeting that a pellet gun was used to shatter some of the lights.

It's hard to anticipate such sprees because of their random nature, Skala said. The department has no witnesses, suspects or evidence that would lead it back to a suspect at this time, he said.

He advised residents to keep their driveways well lit and to call the police if they hear or see anything strange. He said some residents did hear noises Friday night, and if they had called the police sooner, there would have been a better chance of catching the suspects.
