Westmont Aldi Robbed at Gunpoint on Monday

The suspect was wearing a ski mask and got away with $3,000 to $4,000 in cash.

A man robbed at gunpoint the Aldi location at 6415 S. Cass Ave. in Westmont on Monday night at around 9:00 p.m., making off with between $3,000 and $4,000 in cash.

According to Westmont police, the suspect is a black male in his 20s between 5’9” and 6” tall. He was wearing a ski mask and a puffy winter jacket, and brandished a handgun during the robbery.

Police said it is unknown if the weapon was real. “In my experience, they’re making some of these BB guns look so real these days that we can’t even tell the difference,” said Westmont Police Department Sergeant Stephen Thompson. “The people in the store definitely believed it was real.”
