2012 Election: Same President, New Local Candidates

The year in 2012 elections will be remembered nationally as the year Barack Obama was elected to his second term as our nation's president. 

But locally, there was a lot of intrigue as well. Although there wasn't a consolidated municipal elections (those are held in odd years) there was a major initiative on the March ballot: electric aggregation.

Woodridge Voters Vote 'Yes' for Electrical Aggregation

Both Darien and Woodridge voters approved the electrical aggregation measure in March, paving the way to savings on their electricity bills. In Darien, 63 percent of voters approved it, while 54 percent did so in Woodridge. 

They joined a growing number of Illinois communities able to group their residents into one negotiating body with the goal of getting a bulk discount. 

Of course, we can't forget the presidential election or the major congressional races that took place in November 2012. Democrats Dan Lipinski and Bill Foster won their respective congressional races, while Republican Peter Roskam won re-election in his congressional contest.

With that over, we turn our attention to the April 9 municipal election (yes, the election cycle never stops). In Woodridge, the key race is to replace Mayor Murphy, who announced his retirement in August.
