Candidate Questions

Why are you running for this office?

I joined the board four years ago with the intent to learn what a board does and contribute where I had specific expertise.  Now I am running to lead.  My experience will provide continuity and perspective to be sure we are focused on moving forward, not repeating issues of the past.  We are at a crucial turning point for our schools and I am determined to ensure we take advantage of the challenges ahead.

What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?

My one goal is to provide board leadership on our district’s journey from great to best-in-class.  There will be significant challenges along the way, such as the transition to the Common Core Standards and the general economic conditions, and I will set an example by continuing to provide thoughtful suggestions, constructive feedback and rational decisions that are in the best interests of our students, teachers, parents and taxpayers.

If your race is contested, what sets you apart from the other candidates?

The most relevant difference is my participation over the past four years on this current board.  This time has included acting as treasurer (current position), being a significant participant in the process to hire our new superintendent, and being one of the three board members who negotiated the current teachers’ contract (the only one of the three running for re-election).  I am also the only candidate to be endorsed by the Center Cass Education Association.
