‘Brush Up’ on Pickup Procedures

City offers free brush pickup for residents Aug. 27 through 31.

Whether residents are trimming trees, snipping shrubs or pruning privets, they need a way to dispose of the piles of brush that result from all that activity.

The offers free brush pickup several times during the year for all residents who live within the city limits – and the next scheduled dates are Aug. 27 through 31.

At Monday’s city council meeting, Municipal Services Director Dan Gombac urged residents to wait until the weekend before the scheduled pickup week before placing brush out at the curb.

“Keep it on the property until the pickup week,” Gombac said. He added that violation notices could be handed out to residents who place brush on or too close to the street before that time.

According to the city’s website, brush should be stacked neatly by the curb the Sunday before the pickup week. The city’s wood chipper can accept brush up to 6 inches in diameter, and brush should not be tied or placed in garbage cans.

All other yard waste, such as grass clippings and flowers, should be disposed of through the city’s yard waste program with Veoila Environmental, the site states.

Gombac also reminded residents they are welcome to bring their brush to the municipal services facility, which is located at 1041 S. Frontage Road.  A brush dumpster is available at the site Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for residents’ use only. Landscape companies are not permitted to use the dumpsters.

A fall brush pickup is scheduled for Oct. 22 through 26.
