Citizen Committee Begins Reviewing Police Chief Applications

City has received roughly 140 resumes.

The city of Darien has received about 140 applications for the , Mayor Kathleen Weaver said.

Of those 140 candidates, the city has begun to review resumes from about 100 candidates who live in Illinois, Weaver said.

City staff developed criteria by which members of the will rate each resume, she said. The committee began meeting earlier this month.

Weaver selected five Darien residents to serve on the committee:

  • Ward 3 David Gore
  • Ward 4 Chuck Slaybough
  • Ward 5 John Gonczy
  • Ward 6 Jim Bulla     
  • Ward 7 David Kesler

Several aldermen, as well as Planning and Zoning Commission Chair Beverly Meyer, recommended three of the committee members, Weaver said.

“We wanted individuals in management currently or recently retired from management positions,” she said. “It was important that they also had interviewing and hiring experience.”

Weaver said she tried hard to find at least one female committee member but was unable to find a good match.

The city expects to fill the position, which opened when May 31, by September.
