Downers Grove Republicans Endorse Dillard Over Nybo in New 24th Senate District

Nybo calls endorsement proceedings a "sham."

The Downers Grove Township Republican Organization has endorsed Illinois Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-24, Westmont) in his bid for re-election to the 24th Senate District over his opponent, state Rep. Chris Nybo (R-41st, Elmhurst).

Dillard called for Republicans to unite to bring Illinois back to fiscal responsibility. Nearly 100 precinct committeemen from throughout the township voted. To endorse, the DGTRO required 75 percent of committeemen to agree.

Many of the assembled Republicans commented on Dillard’s long record of fiscal responsibility and government accountability.

“Downers Grove is the largest Republican Township in Illinois,” noted Brian Krajewski, chairman of the DGTRO and former mayor of Downers Grove. “Our communities have been well served by the senator.”

Dillard, who is the former DuPage County Republican Party chairman and chief of staff to former Gov. Jim Edgar, thanked the DGTRO.

“These are my neighbors. These are my friends," he said. "They know me and they know my family. They know my record. They know my commitment to reining in excessive government. They know my dedication to providing the best conditions possible for the families in Illinois and job creation.”

Nybo announced last month that he would run for the 24th Senate seat because he  in the House, including Rep. Patti Bellock (R-47th, Westmont). DGTRO also endorsed Bellock.

According to The Doings Newspapers, Nybo dismissed the DGTRO endorsement, saying it was "neither surprising nor meaningful." He said he was offered only two minutes to speak, and he called the proceedings an "anti-democratic insider scheme" and a "sham."

The DGTRO encompasses all or part of Downers Grove, Westmont, Hinsdale, Willowbrook, Darien, Clarendon Hills, Burr Ridge and Oak Brook, which are part of the newly redistricted Illinois 24th Senate District. Also included in the 24th District are Oakbrook Terrace, Elmhurst, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lisle.
