Firefighter Recognition Ceremony and Community Blood Drive

The Darien Woodridge Fire District will be hosting two very special events on May 19th, 2012. An awards ceremony recognizing your firefighter/paramedics for exceptional performance on calls, education, and special work done for the District and its residents, will be held at 10:30am. The ceremony will take place at the Headquarters station located at 7550 Lyman, in Darien. A picnic lunch will be provided for all attendee's following the ceremony.

Additionally, LifeSource Blood Center will be at the fire station for our semi-annual blood drive. This is a critical time for blood centers to increase their available blood supply. Demand for blood increases substantially during the summer months, and this is an opportunity to get ahead of demand. The Illinois Fire Chief's Scholarship Fund, which provides critical funding for educating Illinois firefighters, benefits from each donation. LifeSource will accept donors beginning at 8:30 A.M., and pre-scheduling is encouraged.

Donating blood this day also provides a unique opportunity to meet the people who are there for the residents, 24 hours per day. District firefighters will be donating blood as well. Residents have the opportunity to be a real hero, and save a live themselves, by donating blood. Fire Chief David Lambright says, "I hope that we are able to get a good turnout of District residents for this blood drive, and to share in our Awards Ceremony - where we show appreciation and recognition to our members for the fantastic work they do”.
