Pete DiCianni Announces Bid for Reelection to DuPage County Board

DuPage County Board member Pete DiCianni of Elmhurst (District 2) announced his run for reelection in front of 350 supporters at his annual Fall Food Fest at Diplomat West in Elmhurst Oct. 23.

Kelly Scafuri, Ray Graham Association's community living resources administrator, praised DiCianni for his ongoing advocacy for children and adults with special needs. Carol Stream Mayor Frank Saverino and Oakbrook Terrace Mayor Tony Ragucci spoke about DiCianni’s leadership during the floods of 2010 and 2013. DiCianni has long been a champion for improved storm water relief for the entire region and has lobbied Springfield and Washington, D.C., for assistance.

DuPage State's Attorney Bob Berlin spoke on behalf of Jim Ryan regarding DiCianni’s passion and advocacy for the families of DuPage County. 

“Pete is a steadfast leader on issues of public safety and protecting the most vulnerable, a champion for children and families of our great county," Berlin said. "We need Pete DiCianni re-elected to the DuPage County Board.”

DiCianni, who was mayor of Elmhurst prior to being elected to the DuPage County Board, spoke about his passion for public service, from his days as president and director of Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation, where he served  from 1996-2006, to his legislative advocacy for children with autism. DiCianni crafted Brianna’s Law, now in 33 states, which recognizes autism as a medical condition covered by health insurance. Autism affects one in 50 children today. 

“I am proud to continue to serve the people of DuPage County and I promise to use my leadership, experience and passion to protect the quality of life that we expect for the families of DuPage County," he said. 

He said he will work to promote economic development and job creation, which is the key to funding public schools "and giving our young people the same opportunities I had growing up right here in DuPage County,” he said.

DiCianni founded DiCianni Graphics in Addison at age 18, after graduating from York High School. He attended Elmhurst College's School of Business and Economics.

DiCianni has endorsement pledges from former Illinois Attorney Gen. Jim Ryan, Senators Kirk Dillard and Mike Connelly, Rep. Patti Bellock, and more than 30 DuPage County officials, including DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin, State’s Attorney Bob Berlin, Sheriff John Zaruba, Superintendent of Schools Darlene Riscetti, Coroner Richard Jorgensen, Clerk Gary King, Treasurer Gwen Henry and Clerk of the Court Chris Kachiroubas. 

The event was catered by 12 DuPage food establishments: Francesca's Amici, Gibsons, Purple Pig, Heaven on Seven, Gatto's of Downers Grove, Mariano's, Lezza's Italian Specialties, Hamburger Jones, Roberto's Restaurant, Maya Del Sol of Oak Park, Pinestripes and Maggiano's. 

The Republican Primary election is set for Tuesday, March 18. District 2 which includes all or portions of Elmhurst, Villa Park, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Woodridge, Westmont, Downers Grove, Lisle, Addison and Naperville.
