D181 Assistant Superintendent Bids ‘Bittersweet’ Goodbye

Assistant Superintendent Doug Eccarius resigns from Dist. 181, to accept new position at Indian Prairie School Dist.


Doug Eccarius bid a “bittersweet” goodbye to Community Consolidated School Dist. 181, resigning as assistant superintendent of human resources during the D181 school board meeting on Monday.

Eccarius is making a lateral move where he has been appointed to the same position for Indian Prairie Dist. 204.

Eccarius explained to board members that the change will allow him to be closer to his family, but is “bittersweet,” district officials said.

Noted a press release on the district’s website:

“I have been fortunate to build relationships with eager students, talented staff members, and involved parents,” he said. “This is a great community, and I have felt an enormous amount of support from parents and staff.”

Eccarius previously worked in District 204, as a math and geography teacher with Gregory Middle School. 

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to serve as a leader in District 204, the district that gave me my first teaching position,” he said. 

Eccarius joined District 181 as Assistant Principal of Clarendon Hills Middle School in July 2003 and became Principal of The Lane School in June 2005. He accepted the Human Resources position in July 2011. He has a Master’s degree in educational leadership and administration and a Bachelor’s degree in education.

Superintendent Dr. Renée Schuster congratulated Eccarius in his new position and thanked him for his service to District 181.
“Mr. Eccarius has been an outstanding leader in our community," Schuster said.. "His commitment to students and staff is exceptional, and his work in Human Resources during the last two school years has resulted in improved processes and stronger organization of the many facets he manages, including staffing, enrollment, labor relations and evaluations. We wish Mr. Eccarius a successful return to District 204.”

Eccarius will remain with Dist. 181 through the end of June, until his new job starts on July 1. Meanwhile, the search is on for a new assistant superintendent.
