D86 Hires New HR Director

The District 86 Board of Education approved on Nov. 6 the hiring of Domenico Maniscalco as its new director of human resources, replacing the departed Troy Courtney.

Maniscalco is expected to begin on Dec. 2.

"I'm overjoyed to start as the director of human resources for such a wonderful district," Maniscalco said in a district release. "I look forward to collaborating with the board of education to serve the students, community, staff and faculty at Hinsdale Township High School District 86."

Maniscalco has worked as a senior human resources administrator for Niles Township District 219 in Skokie since 2009.

"We are very excited that Domenico will be joining our team and that he is able to do so mid-year," District 86 Superintendent Bruce Law said in the district release. "We needed someone who had human resource experience as well as school experience at the district level, and he has worked in that capacity in both the private sector and in a high school district."

The human resources director is one of several major District 86 hires that needed to be made after Courtney, Superintendent Nick Wahl, business director Jeff Eagan and Hinsdale Central principal Mike McGrory departed over the summer. 

Law was hired as Wahl's permanent replacement. Replacements for Eagan and McGrory have yet to be hired.

Maniscalco will oversee all aspects of the HR department, including benefits, health and wellness, labor negotiations, employee relations, policy, evaluations, compensation and pensions as well as the department’s $10 million budget and the district’s $48 million budget for employee salaries.

Before going into the education industry, Maniscalco worked in the corporate sector for seven years. He has worked in human resources for United Airlines, Hennis & Mauritz in Chicago, and Paisans Ristorante Italiano in Gurnee.   

Maniscalco is currently pursuing his doctorate in educational leadership from National Louis University. He earned both his master’s degree in organizational leadership and his bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Judson University.
