Darien, Woodridge Students Named Illinois State Scholars

Nazareth Academy announced 48 students who were named Illinois State Scholars.

Nazareth Academy Principal Deborah Tracy announced 48 students who were recognized as Illinois State Scholars, including some from Darien and Woodridge. 

“We are extremely proud of these young men and women who represent our school not onlyin this area of academic achievement, but also as such outstanding individuals as well," Tracy said in a news release. "We congratulate them and their parents on this distinguished honor."

The award, given annually by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, recognized 18,863 high school students from across the state as this year’s scholars. Since 1979, more than 582,000 Illinois students have been honored as State Scholars, according to the release.

Illinois State Scholar winners rank in the top 10 percent of high school seniors from 749 different high schools across the state. Selection is based on SAT, ACT and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores, and/or class rank at the end of junior year. High school guidance counselors work in conjunction with ISAC to determine the winners.
