Dave Putz Says Goodbye to High School, Hello to New Adventures

Senior reflects on experiences with his Hinsdale South's Deaf Academic Bowl team and where he's headed in the future.

Darien Patch: How was your experience as a member of the Deaf Academic Bowl?

Dave Putz: “My experience was definitely both a difficult and rewarding one. Over the course of four years, I studied PowerPoints, trivia questions, and numerous study guides to prepare for competition each year. The academic bowl trip itself was always an enjoyable experience, filled with diverse students from all over the country. I am greatly honored to have been a part of academic bowl for the last four years, and to be a captain for the last three. This team was one of the best memories of high school, and it provided me both an academic boost and a few unforgettable adventures.”

Patch: What will you miss most about Hinsdale South?

Putz: “I think I will miss the students who I have been friends with for most of my life. I couldn’t imagine my high school life without their companionship. I will also miss many teachers who
have made a huge impact on my life; my academic bowl coaches Kathy Craig and Jamie Nick, my course teachers and, especially, my interpreters. High school sports that I participated in, especially deaf volleyball and track, are things I also will miss and look back on later in my life.”

Patch: Where are you headed this fall?

Putz: "I am going to be attending Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, and my major is
 political science/business.”

Patch: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Putz: “In 10 years, I would want to have a family, obviously. Hopefully, I would have a great job that I enjoy going to, a nice car, and a nice house. There are too many possibilities for me, and I don’t know exactly what I want just yet. But the things I listed above are things I would like to have in the next five to 10 years. As with the rest of life, I think I should wait and see what happens.
