The Darien Dash is held every year on the third Sunday in May. The race is organized by the Darien Chamber of Commerce and raises funds for the community of Darien and it surrounding communities.

Casey said four Lace Elementary School teachers helped coordinate the school's participatation in the race this past May. They were:

  • Cami Nicol, Physical Education teacher
  • Nina Offerman, 3rd Grade Teacher
  • Kim Schultz, Reading Specialist
  • Janel Luna, 5th Grade Teacher

Casey said the $1,000 the school received would go toward purchasing instructional and athletic equipment.

"It helps us buy things we couldn’t normally afford," said Casey. "We've sponsored assembly programs with this money, helped defer the cost of field trips ... the extra assistance goes directly back to the students."
