Lace School Names Spelling Champs

Four students each from the fourth and fifth grades will compete Friday at the district spelling bee.

The following was submitted by Lace Elementary School teacher Emily Heise:

held its annual Grade Level Spelling Bee for fourth and fifth grade students on Jan. 27. Spelling Bee Coordinator and third grade teacher, Emily Heise, pronounced the words, gave definitions and read sentences for students. The judges, Kimberly Granback, Cheryl Buhrke and Hollie Hickey determined the
validity of each spelling and kept track of eliminations and naming of the finalists.

Each grade level spelling bee began with seven classroom spelling bee champions and seven runners up. In total, 28 students competed head-to-head in front of their classmates to determine one champion and three runners up for each grade.

The fourth grade spelling bee lasted nearly 60 minutes as students spelled their hearts out in a nail-biting tiebreaker for third runner up! The fourth grade champion, Samuel Krauter, with the runners up Emma Lim, Max Noga and Julius Bryant, will go on to the next level of the competition.

The fifth grade bee lasted nearly 35 minutes that also resulted in an exciting tiebreaker to determine the third runner up. The fifth grade champion, Andrew Knight, along with runners up Amya Patterson, Kamil Kawiecki and Ugonna Nwakudu, will join the fourth grade contestants in the District Level Bee on Feb. third at .
