Game Preview: Hinsdale South vs. Addison Trail

This week, the Hinsdale South Hornets take on the Addison Trail Blazers. This is the preview of this weeks match-up.

The Hinsdale South Hornets came out strong last week at home, shutting down the Proviso East Pirates, 53-0. The Hornets were able to score 39 points in the first half alone, thanks to their strong running game, and ability to take advantage of errors. A blocked kick, which translated to another Hornet’s touchdown, was one of the many highlights of the second half of the game. With this victory, the Hornets move to 3-0 on the season, and are now 1-0 in the West Suburban Gold Conference.

“We are excited to be 3-0, but not satisfied. We are goal oriented and working towards accomplishing our goals as a team,” said Hornets Head Coach, Mike Barry.

One of Hinsdale’s short-term goals is getting a victory this week on the road. The Hornets will be going to Addison Trail to do battle with the Blazers, who were shut down, and unable to score in their game last week against Leyden. The Eagles were able to pull out on top of the Blazers, 27-0.

Last season, the Hornets entered the contest with the Blazers, at home, holding a 2-1 record. The Blazers demonstrated a very strong defense, which prevented the Hornets from scoring at all. The final score of last year’s contest was 21-0, in favor of Addison Trail. The Hornets hope this season’s contest will be a better one, as they try to protect their perfect 3-0 record.

The Blazers currently hold a 1-2 record, with their only victory coming in week one against the West Chicago Wildcats. The Blazers barely defeated the Wildcats in that game, pulling off a 28-27 victory. Since that game, the Blazers have had a tough time, and have not been able to pull off another victory.

Keys to the Game:

Last week, the Hornets used their running game to their advantage early on, and this week should be no different. The Hornets saw strong running from Davonte Washington, Abreon Starks, D.J. Deolitsis (who also had a great game at quarterback) and Arian Toney. Overall, the Hornets had 143 running yards, all of which lead to touchdowns. We can expect the Hornets to continue this strong running game this week at Addison Trail.

Last week, quarterback D.J. Deolitsis was mentioned as the “offensive spark” that the Hornets needed to succeed. Last week, Deolitsis had 72 passing yards, as well as 97 rushing yards. He was responsible for 12 points against Proviso, and definitely helped the Hornets come away with this victory. According to the Chicago Sun Times, Deolitsis has completed 46 percent of his passes for only 292 yards and one TD. This week, the Hornets will once again rely on his strong playing, and the Addison Trail Blazers will be watching him very closely.

Addison Trail, on the other hand, will be looking to offensive linemen Wyatt Klemm and Nathan Biewer to help them out this week against Hinsdale. Both of these players have a lot of Varsity experience, and know how to perform against this Hornets team. The Blazers hope their leadership and experience will help them come out with a victory against the Hornets, and there will be a lot of pressure on both of these players to perform.

Time for Predictions:

Statistically, the Hornets have a strong advantage over the Blazers in this week’s matchup. The Hornets come into this game ranked as #75 in the state, while the Blazers rank #158. The Hornets have the ability to come out with a victory over the Blazers this week, but they will have to work for it. The Blazers will be at home, and they will want to put on a good performance in front of their home crowd. The Hornets will have to play hard to keep their perfect record, and possibly go 2-0 in conference play.

Game Time:

This game is scheduled to take place on Friday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 pm at Addison Trail High School in Addison, Illinois.
