When and how did your business get started?

In 2002, I was working with the dogs at a shelter where I was volunteering and began to notice that the majority of dogs being brought to the shelter were in there adolescent period of development.

I was training very smart, friendly dogs and realized that often times they would be returned. I started Family K9 with the goal of reaching the families who wanted a canine in their family, but struggled with the training to accomplish a true partnership with their dog for a lifetime. I have since been training group classes and private lessons helping people train through respect and love for reliability and confidence.

What is your business best known for?

Group Classes for all levels of dog obedience and happy training, as well as Private Lessons in people's homes for spot-on training.

What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?

I bring fresh concepts into dog training, removing the need for harsh corrections and fearful tactics. I encourage training to start as soon as the puppy or dog is brought home, which can be as early as 10 weeks old or as mature as 10 years old! Training can start at any time.

Why did you choose the town you did to open your business?

I love Darien and grew up here.

Does your business offer a special deals card or program?

25 percent off one-hour private lesson with the purchase of a four-hour package.
