Boys Basketball: Hinsdale South Holds off Leyden in Thriller

The Hot Read: Both Hinsdale South and Leyden were successful from behind the three-point arc in the Horntes' 55-53 boys basketball victory on Saturday night. The Hornets shot 57 percent from behind the arc, while the Eagles shot 38 percent. Hinsdale South used a 12-0 scoring run to lead 30-21 at halftime. However, the Eagles came out of the locker room with a 9-0 run of their own to cut the third-quarter deficit to 37-33. After trading scoring runs in the fourth quarter, the Hornets led 54-53 with 15 seconds remaining. Leyden relinquished the ball on and was forced to foul Hornets center junior Brock Benson. Benson (who acheived a double-double) went 1-of-2 at the free throw line, and the Eagles had one final possesion down 55-53. Eagles senior forward Romund Duffie heaved a straight half-court shot, only for it to bounce off the iron and ensure the Hornets victory.
