Hinsdale South Dance Team Wins Grand Championship at State Competition

Hinsdale South also finished in first place in the 2A Kick competition and tied for second in the 2A Pom category at the Team Dance Illinois state championship this past weekend.

The Hinsdale South High School varsity danceline team competed this past weekend at the Team Dance Illinois state competition, returning with a grand championship.

Hinsdale South finished in first place in the 2A Kick competition and tied for second in the 2A Pom category at the state championship held Sunday at the Peoria Civic Center, according to the TDI website.

The team was selected as the 2A grand champion after scoring the most points in all 2A categories and received a check for $500, according to an e-mail from Nancy Ardovitch, a parent of a Hinsdale South danceline team member.

The team competed in two regional competitions in January and February to qualify for the state competition, according to Ardovitch. She said the Hinsdale South Varsity Danceline is a team of 23 girls, coached by Courtney Gillette and Heather Riggs.

While the team has won several IDTA (Illinois Drill Team Association) State titles in recent years, this is the first time Hinsdale South has won a TDI state championship or grand championship, according to Ardovitch.
