Winter Playoff Tracker: Boys Basketball Teams Prep for State Playoffs

It's playoffs season for high school winter sports, and we want to track the action for local teams in basketball, wrestling, gymnastics and more. We'll follow the top schools in the area, including Downers Grove North and South, Hinsdale Central and South and area private schools.

Girls Basketball

Playoffs have started for girls basketball. Here's the latest results and upcoming games for local teams: 

Hinsdale Central: Season over. Lost 70-56 to OPRF in the regional championship. 

Hinsdale South: Season over. Lost 59-45 to North Lawndale Charter in the regional semifinals.

Downers Grove North: Season over. Lost 61-39 to Wheaton North in the regional semifinals.

Downers Grove South: Season over. Lost 48-27 to Elk Grove Village in the regional semifinals.

Lemont: Season over. Lost 52-35 to Romeoville in the regional semifinals.

Benet: Season over. Lost 44-42 to Naperville Central in the regional championship. 

Montini: Next game is 7:30 p.m. Thursday vs. Glenbard South in the sectional championship. Last game: Won 67-42 vs. Westinghouse Prep in the sectional semifinals.

Boys Basketball

Regional play begins Feb. 25 and goes through March 1. The state tournament is March 15-16 in Peoria. 

Hinsdale Central: Next game is 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 vs. Geneva/Wheaton South winner, Class 4A Wheaton South regional. 

Hinsdale South: Next game is 6 p.m. Feb. 25 at Oswego East, Class 4A Oswego East regional.

Downers Grove South: Next game is 6 p.m. Feb. 25 vs. Yorkville, Class 4A Wheaton South regional.

Downers Grove North: Next game is 6 p.m. Feb. 25 vs. Plainfield North, Class 4A Benet regional.

Benet: Next game is 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 vs. Plainfield North vs. Downers North winner, Class 4A Benet regional.

Lemont: Next game is 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 vs. Bolingbrook, Class 4A Batavia regional:

Montini: Next game is 7:30 p.m. Feb. 27 vs. Nazareth, Class 3A Glenbard South regional.

Team State Finals

Hinsdale Central lost to Sandburg, 43-20, in the Class 3A sectional title game. 

Montini defeated Crystal Lake Central, 59-7, in the Class 2A sectional title game. Will face Lincoln-Way West in the state quarterfinals, 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. 

Girls Gymnastics

State finals were Feb. 15-16. No area teams qualified, but here are individual qualifiers:

Erin Morgan (Sr.), Hinsdale (Central): Placed 21st in All-Around, 20th in Vault, 29th in Uneven Parallel Bars, 28th in Balance Beam and 13th Floor Exercise, 

Maddie Nowak (Fr.), Darien (Hinsdale South): Placed 26th in All-Around, 14th in Vault, 36th in Uneven Parallel Bars and 24th in Floor Exercise

Cayley Brenk (Jr.), Hinsdale (Central): Placed 27th in Vault

Boys Swim/Dive

All sectionals will be Saturday, Feb. 16, and the state finals will be Feb. 22-23. See full sectional assignments here.

Lyons Township Sectional, State Qualifiers

• Team: Hinsdale Central (1st), Hinsdale South (5th)
• 200 medley: Hinsdale Central (1st)
• Individual 200 medley: Dan Ciciora, Hinsdale Central (2nd)
• 50 freestyle: Alec Masterson, Downers Grove South, (2nd); Gunnar Wagner, Hinsdale South, (4th); and Connor Schroyer, Hinsdale Central, (6th).
• Diving: Ryan Kujawa, Downers Grove South, (1st); Ryan O'Donnell, Hinsdale Central, (2nd); Josh Jager, DG South, (4th); Sam Pielet, Hinsdale Central (5th); 
•  100 butterfly: Brian Portland (1st) and Mark Smith (2nd), both of Hinsdale Central

Boys Bowling

The boys bowling season is complete. The results were: 

• Lemont placed 15th at the Sandburg sectional.
• Hinsdale South placed 8th and Hinsdale Central 9th at the Oak Lawn sectional. 

Girls Bowling

The girls bowling season is complete. The results were:

Kyra Udziela (So.), Lemont, rolled 2,474 over four rounds, an average of 206.2, good for 28th place in state. 

Hinsdale South's team placed 23rd in state on day one, with an average game of 165.9  Kiaira Hassel (Jr.), Lauren Wolski (Sr.), Brittany Foldes (Jr.) and Faith Most (Jr.) all bowled at state. 

Downers Grove South placed 9th in the Plainfield North sectional, but didn't advance. Downers Grove North placed 16th at the same sectional.  Hinsdale Central placed 11th at the Reavis sectional. 

Competitive Cheerleading

Lemont placed 2nd in the state finals "medium team" category with a score of 90.80. 

Downers Grove South placed 6th in the state finals "co-ed team" category with a score of 89.34. 

Downers Grove North placed 18th in the co-ed team state prelims with a score of 83.18, but that wasn't enough to advance to the state finals.

Montini placed 23rd in the state prelims "medium team" category with a score of 76.56. 

Benet placed 7th in the Rolling Meadows sectional but didn't advance.

Hinsdale South placed 8th in the Mahomet-Seymour sectional but didn't advance.  

Competitive Dancing

Downers Grove South placed 7th in the Class 3A state finals with a score of 78.46. 

Downers Grove North placed 21st in the Class 3A prelims, scoring 69.82, but did not advance to the finals. 

Hinsdale South placed 18th in the Class 2A prelims, scoring 66.82, but didn't advance to the finals.  

Lemont placed 8th in the Andrew High School sectionals with a 56.97, but didn't advance.
