Cass Junior High School 5th Graders Explore the Outdoors

Cass Jr. High 5th graders returned last week from their journey to Oregon, Illinois for some outdoor adventures and a unique educational experience.  The students left Cass for 3 days of learning new and exciting activities that would promote team building and leadership.

Daily activities included fishing, archery, bee studies, learning about wilderness survival skills, a long prairie hike, and orienteering.

Before a delicious dinner, the students were able to relax and have some fun by participating in group games and scavenger hunts.  Nighttime activities included a raptor presentation, astronomy and star gazing, and the ever popular night hike.  After a busy day, the students reside to their cabins for a good night’s sleep.

The students had the opportunity to get to know their peers, as well as their teachers, in a completely different environment compared to the school setting.  They come back newly energized to continue their 5th grade adventures for the rest of the school year. Students at Cass talk about their “outdoor ed” trip for many years and wish they can go back and relive the experience.  Luckily, they keep a journal so that they can remember all of the fun times.
