Your Take: Concealed Carry in Illinois (Poll)

Cast your vote and see what some of your neighbors think of Illinois' becoming the last state in the nation to have legal private concealed carry.

Concealed carry of firearms was legalized Tuesday as the Illinois House and Senate overrode Gov. Pat Quinn's amendatory veto.

We asked our readers: Are you outraged or relieved? Do you think carrying a gun as you go about your day is a way to protect yourself from dangerous people, or is it something that will lead to increased gun violence on the streets?

Read some of their responses below, and vote in the poll above:

Jana Niebauer—“It is scary, but look already the gun violence every day. Maybe they will think twice knowing others can protect themselves. And maybe the point is, they don't think. I guess it's just a wait and see.” – Downers Grove Patch Facebook

Karen Clausen Hayes—“Does the gun violence on the streets involve individuals who actually carry a firearm legally, have a FOID card, and register their firearms? I would be more worried about that then people who are own and carry legally... but that is my opinion!” – Darien Patch Facebook

Mary Powers-Hofmann—“I believe it will lead to more gun violence.” – Downers Grove Patch Facebook

Laurie Berg—“Giving law-abiding people their right to carry guns will not increase violence in the streets. Unless, of course, they are defending themselves from a thug criminal. Illinois just joined every other state that protects the constitutional rights of its citizens to carry a weapon.” – Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Patch Facebook

Jen Goldsberry Quandt—“I'm gonna quote Han Solo and say, ‘I got a bad feeling about this...’” – Downers Grove Patch Facebook

Daniel Techman—“The bad guys already have guns and carry them with no regard for the law. Perhaps this levels the field; its a good thing.” – Downers Grove Patch Facebook

Bruce Beckman—“Well, I never owned a firearm until this year. I have become as concerned about folks like the NRA as the criminals. I see two fronts.” – Downers Grove Patch Facebook

Karen Sherman Bushy—“One need only look at Chicago: tough gun laws in the only state without concealed carry. Clearly the law is not problematic; other states that have the law, and have had it for a long time, don't have the problems we have here. Most of the articles and the comments fail to recognize the amount of training and licensing that must occur.” – Downers Grove Patch Facebook

Lori Galandak-Anthony—“Best thing ever! I will carry.” – Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Patch Facebook

Jeremy Griffith—“This is a good thing! Now people will think twice before robbing, rape or breaking in to people's homes. Finally Illinois has done something smart!” Lemont Patch Facebook – Lemont Patch Facebook
