The group held a party Friday to collect the toys before delivering them to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Saturday.

The kids at Children’s Memorial Hospital got a special delivery Saturday from an extraordinary group of Darien kids.

The Cancer Smashers, a group of kids dedicated to help stomping out cancer, threw a party Friday at the during which they collected toys for the hospitalized children.

On Saturday, the Cancer Smashers toured the labs of the Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center of Northwestern before dropping off the holiday gifts for the children at CMH.

The group formed as a youth offshoot of the H Foundation, which raises funds for the cancer research at the Lurie Center, organizer Beth Tischler said.

Many of the kids, who range in age from 10-18, volunteered at the H Foundation’s annual fundraiser, the Goombay Bash at Navy Pier, and wanted a way to continue the work year round, she said.

“The kids love it,” Tischler said. “They’ve been calling me about Saturday, ‘What time should I be there? What should I wear?’ It’s really important to them.”
